Playstation 3 (80 GB) goes – PS3 Slim comes
August 4, 2009 by Alex Kling
Rumors swirled for months. Now there is growing evidence that Sony is going to launch the new PS3 Slim very soon – combined with a long expected price cut for its Playstation 3 console.
Japanese retailer 7-Eleven stops taking orders for the 80 GB Playstation 3 due to a “request from the manufacturer”. European dealers have been informed of a 100 Euro price cut, as RTLinfo.be reports.
Amazon Germany already listed a “Playstation 3 Console slim” without stating price or date of availability. Later on Amazon customers uploaded pictures which could be real or fake. But some similar pictures had been around earlier. A Chinese manufacturer obviously linked to Sony even indirectly confirmed them by sending cease & desist notices to websites featuring these images.

A further confirmation could be seen in reports about Taiwans OEMs placing significant higher orders for key Sony PS3 components. Some market watchers are expecting the official Sony PS3 Slim introduction at August 18th – the evening before the GamesCom video games show in Cologne, Germany, is opening its doors.
