Iphone exclusivity deals to end worldwide
June 25, 2009 by Bernd Kling
T-Mobile Germany, exclusive Iphone carrier since 2007, is going to lose its exclusivity contract. It may signal the end of Apples exclusive device deals worldwide – and better prices for consumers.
German business monthly Manager Magazin cites reliable sources inside the mobile carrier business. According to these informations the exclusivity deal between Deutsche Telekom and Apple will end in November 2009. T-Mobile’s parent company doesn’t even know what to expect for 2010. A Deutsche Telekom speaker gave a very reluctant outlook:
“We have a long range partnership with Apple. This is not going to change until the end of 2009.”
While exclusivity deals seem to end worldwide competition is going to be fierce. O2, up to now the exclusive Iphone carrier in the UK, is already eyeing the German market:
“We are very confident we will be able to offer the Iphone in Germany when it will be free of exclusivity rights in November.”
